Michel Foucault

One field of study, two universities.

The European Media Studies programme, established in 2000, is a joint programme run by the University of Potsdam (Institute of Arts and Media) and the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences (Department of Design). The University of Potsdam and the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences run the consecutive degree programme jointly and on an equal footing at both Bachelor’s and Master’s level. Students are enrolled at the University of Potsdam.
About us

Bachelor

The distinctive features of the Bachelor’s programme lie not only in the collaboration between two universities, but also in the breadth of its curriculum. The programme combines practical training (through an introduction to digital design techniques and the development of format and concept projects) with theoretical study (including media theory, media art, the history of media culture, and forms of media presentation such as games or VR). Courses in cultural economics and media law round off the curriculum.

Master

The Master’s programme provides an in-depth exploration of cultural and media studies, taking into account current international research, and combines this with digital design techniques and project work. The focus is on issues relating to media theory, media aesthetics and media art, as well as on the examination of specific media configurations, strategies and the history of media culture, alongside current developments in the media.
