Resonances and Reverberations. Listening as a Bodily Experience
The course will focus on the experience of listening as a bodily experience. Special attention will be given to building listener's perceptual awareness. The course will involve working with the senses and the surrounding environment in order to create a sound environment anew as a personal and intimate territory.

The participants during the course will be encouraged to exercise listening and hearing and to work not only with field recordings but also reach for any kind of accessible media, that would help them in the final assignment.

The course will embrace the introduction to field recording techniques (use of the recorders, microphones) and sound editing (using sound editing software, within time possibilities).

The course will be held in English.

Sommer 2016
Speculative Resonances. On Listening as a Bodily Experience in Everyday Urbanscapes | Projektwoche Potsdam
'It might perhaps be simpler if we were to follow the tried and true methods of the psychologist, who describes what he observes, measures the levels, and classifies types - who sees imagination being born in children without ever really examining how it dies in ordinary men.' (Gaston Bachelard, Poetics of Reverie)

'Like crystal, like metal, and many other substances I am a sonorous being, but I hear my vibration from within, as Malraux said, I hear myself with my throat.' (Maurice Merleau-Ponty, The Visible and the Invisible)

The workshop focuses on our perception, processes of listening or hearing understood as a bodily experience and practiced within the urban environment. During the workshops we will be working on shifting our attention towards the sonic environment. We will be using an autoethnographical and phenomenological method interleaved - enclosed in four practices of listening, recording, writing and photographing. The workshop's aim is to unveil the poetic images and speculative resonances between our bodies and the sonic inside everyday life, and collect traces and glimpses of them using the four practices.
