"Tell me what matter was the ground"– Repair Beyond Redemption, Teil 2

"Tell me what matter was the ground"– Repair Beyond Redemption, Teil 2 | Workshop at silent green Kulturquartier

‘Tell me what matter was the ground’ is a workshop that takes Dionne Brand’s “In another place not here” (1986) as inspiration to ask: How are our relations to place, to ground, to soil, shaped by the possibilities and impossibilities they afford us? How do the shades and layers of the ground, the organic and inorganic matter that produces soil as archive, imbue practices of repair and resistance? How do the relations of matter that make soil and cause contested grounds connect to political acts and collective movements and how can they forge audio-visual forms of non-re- presentation? How can the violence of plantation politics and colonial slave labour, of occupations, settler colonialisms, extractions and environmental racism, be narrated and become a departure point for political and artistic resistance practices, working with diverse relations to land? How might these practices feed back into ecologies and environmental politics that simultaneously acknowledge reparative, contested, violated, radiant, alienating aspects of being with soil and grounds.
