Gastvortrag im ZeM | Jonathan Rosenbaum: 'On the Necessity of Film Canons'

An examination of why film canons and lists of films are important today in the development and dissemination of film culture.
Jonathan Rosenbaum maintains a web site archiving most of his published work at JONATHAN ROSENBAUM. He was the principal film critic at the Chicago Reader from 1987 to 2008. Since the founding of Béla Tarr’s film.factory in Sarajevo in 2013, he has taught there in four separate two-week sessions. His most recent book is Goodbye Cinema, Hello Cinephilia: Film Culture in Transition (University of Chicago Press, 2010).
The guest lecture is followed by a screening of Sans toit ni loi (Dir. Agnès Varda, 1985, French w. English subtitles) at the Filmmuseum Potsdam (Breite Str. 1a / Marstall, 14467 Potsdam), introduced by Jonathan Rosenbaum.
