Within the framework of the Eurolecture guest professorship for the Arts and Media Department, funded by Alfred Toepfer Stiftung F.V.S. the European Media Studies programme organizes a lecture series which deals with Europe as a fragmented and contradictory concept and question this concept critically. It focuses on alternative and “subcultural” projects as well as on artistic practices, emphasizing topics like migration, economy, prosperity and gender. The projects presented all operate in different medial formats like theatre/performance, film/video and most of them are co-productions embracing transdisciplinary and transcultural perspectives.

The sixth and last guest of the lecture series is KÖKEN ERGUN. Ergun (*1976 in Istanbul) is a visual artist based in Istanbul and Berlin. He studied acting at the Istanbul University and completed his postgraduate degree in Classics at King’s College London, followed by an MA degree in Visual Communication Design at the Bilgi University. After working with american theatre director Robert Wilson, Ergun became involved with contemporary art, specifically video and performance. One of his major interests is how identities are performed in masses and the ritual as a social praxis.

He has exhibited internationally at institutions including Platform Garanti (Istanbul), KIASMA Museum of Contemporary Arts (Helsinki), Sparwasser HQ (Berlin), Museum of Contemporary Arts Taipei, Art in General (New York), Digital ArtLab (Tel Aviv), and Stedelijk Meseum Bureau (Amsterdam). His video works have also screened extensively, including the Oberhausen, Rotterdam, Sydney and Zagreb Film Festivals.
He is currently showing his work "Wedding" at the based in berlin exhibition.
