Ludic Interfaces. Designing media environments for the homo ludens

Long before innovative gaming systems like the Nintendo Wii generated public awareness of the shifting interest from content to interface, innovative artists and scientists were exploring new configurations of wo/man–machine, machine–machine, and human-human interfaces. The premise of the Joint European Masters Programme in Ludic Interfaces is that interface innovation – one only needs to remember the genealogy of graphical user interfaces – has its roots in playfulness. The methodologies that this line of inquiry draws upon for the analysis and development of innovative interfaces encompass ludology, media theory, cultural science, artistic practice, HCIUE (human computer interfaces and usability engineering) and collaborative content creation (wikis, blogs, social networking, prototyping, bending- and modding practices).
