Dr. Gabrielle A. Hezekiah
(The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago):
»Visualization, Visibility and the Emerging in the Works of Bill Viola«
Gabrielle A. Hezekiah is Lecturer in Cultural Studies in the Department of Literary, Cultural and Communication Studies at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago. She holds a PhD in Film and Philosophy and a MA in Cultural Studies from the University of Toronto. She is author of Phenomenology's Material Presence: Video, Vision and Experience (Bristol and Chicago: Intellect and The University of Chicago Press, 2010). Her essays include »The Interior Life of Painting: Lebenswelt and Subjectivity in the Work of Roberta Stoddart«, in: Small Axe 38 (2012). Dr. Hezekiah is currently postdoc visiting researcher in the European Media Studies program at the University of Potsdam and the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam with a DAAD scholarship, in cooperation with Prof. Dr. Dieter Mersch and Dr. Jörg Sternagel. She works on a project in Media Arts, titled »Virtual/Actual: Visualizing the Interface in the Videos of Bill Viola«.
